Keynote abstract
Our health systems have moved from mainly being focused on acute care to treating chronic diseases.
The ability to understand and cope with public health issues makes a critical difference in a country`s future. To what extend are pharmacists proactive in playing an active role in changing health systems?
The presentation will be the author`s subjective observations on leadership roles during a major process of change in society: politically, economically and scientifically during the last 30 years.
Successful professions are professions staffed with technology literate people. States are falling apart because their leaders do not understand the logic of a knowledge driven economy. So will professions staffed with people who spend their time and energy to defend their territory, avoiding change as long as possible.
In the environment where pharmacists practise there is a need for redesigned systems of care and there is an important position vacant: the therapeutic leadership role. Who is going to fill this position? And what is the future role of pharmacists?
